Bethel Baptist Church Thrift Cooperative Society Ltd ("BTC", "we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. We ask that you read this privacy notice carefully as it contains important information about what to expect when BTC collects and processes your personal data through your use of this site, or any other channels through which we interact with you, and how we will hold, use, store, and whenever necessary, disclose your personal data. BTC has adopted this notice to enhance our communication to clients regarding privacy and use of data and in compliance with Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, 2020 (the "DPA"). If we update this Privacy Notice, we will post the revised version on this page.


Personal Data We Collect and Process About You

We may need to collect, use, process, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you as the case may be, including:

  • Identity Data (e.g. name and date of birth)
  • Contact Data (e.g. postal/residential address, email address, telephone number)
  • Financial Data (e.g. account balances, transactions)
  • Technical and Usage Data (e.g. internet protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, operating system and platform, and other technology on the devices you use to access this site; and information on how you use this site)
  • Profile Data (e.g. username and password)
  • Sensitive Personal Data (e.g. Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and citizenship status)
  • Content downloaded (cookies)


There are different ways in which we may collect personal data from and about you. include:

  • Directly from you e.g. by completing forms or corresponding with us by email and when you fill out personal data on this site, enter a competition/promotion/survey or give us feedback, subscribe to a service or contact us;
  • Information your devices or web browser provide to us or that is obtained using web technologies e.g. device details, browsing actions and patterns through the use of cookies;
  • Information from third-party sources such as business customers, government agencies, consumer and credit reporting agencies and other public or authorised sources.

When personal data is no longer required, we will securely delete, anonymise or otherwise dispose of it in accordance with applicable law and our retention practices.

Where required by the DPA, we rely on one or more lawful bases for processing personal data, including:


  • The performance of a contract;
  • Compliance with any legal obligation;
  • Protection of your vital interests;
  • For the administration of justice, exercise of any function conferred by or under any enactment, or exercise of any other functions of a public nature exercised in the public interest;
  • Purposes of legitimate interest; and
  • With consent by the data subject (you).


We may use your contact details to send marketing communications where permitted by law, including where you have consented or requested information from us and have not opted out. You will receive marketing communications from us if you have requested information from us and you have not opted out of receiving marketing communications.


Even where consent is required for a particular activity, please note that we may be compelled to share your data with law enforcement or in complying with a legal obligation, or a court order,



How We Protect Your Personal Data

We will use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to safeguard your personal data against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, theft, loss, destruction or other unlawful processing. These measures are reviewed and updated as appropriate to the nature of the data and the risks involved.

Subject to applicable exemptions and requirements under the DPA, you have rights in relation to your personal data, including:


  • Right of Access: You may have the right to access the personal data we have on you by obtaining a copy of the personal data
  • Right to rectification: to request correction or amendment of errors in the personal data we have about you
  • Right to Prevent processing: You may have the right to request that the Data Controller cease  not begin processing in certain circumstances; and
  • Rights in relation to automated decision-making: You may have the right to ensure that no decision to which sanction applies is not based solely on automated processing where the DPA gives you that right.

Your Consent

Where we rely on consent, your consent must be informed, freely given, specific and unequivocal. You may withdraw consent where permitted by law, but withdrawal will not affect processing carried out before withdrawal or processing based on another lawful basis. Sharing of Personal Data

Subject to your consent, wWe may share personal data with affiliates, service providers, professional advisers, regulators, public authorities, law enforcement agencies, credit reporting agencies, payment and technology providers, and other third parties where necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Notice or where required or permitted by law.


Where third parties process personal data for us, we require them to protect the data, keep it confidential, and use it only for authorised purposes and in accordance with applicable law.


We may transfer personal data outside Jamaica where necessary to provide services or operate our business. Where we do so, we will take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including contractual protections or other measures required or permitted by applicable law.
